Downtown Chestertown Association Finds Economic Solutions in our Electronic World
The Downtown Chestertown Association’s focus for 2010 has been to encourage residents and visitors to Preserve Our Sense of Place - Think Chestertown First and to broadcast information about all that can be found in Chestertown and the surrounding area. The DCA feels these are necessary steps to control our own economic destiny and support our community of businesses, non-profits and services. A new website, special events, and plans for an Interactive Digital Sign are just a few of the innovative ideas of the Association.
President, Nancy McGuire explains, “We want to honor the very special nature of Chestertown by emphasizing that we are, architecturally, historic while we show the world we continue to be innovative and modern. Our plans for an Interactive Digital Sign located in the heart of downtown will be Downtown Chestertown Association’s solution to highlight all that is important to the vitality and excitement of living and visiting Chestertown.
Chestertown will have Maryland’s first – fully interactive public sign. It will be a resource for visitors and residents alike. Finding iSign Logic, a company who specializes in signage for trade shows and conferences, is making this unique project a reality. “The owner of iSign Logic, Carey Callahan, has fully understood our goals and has walked us through the process finding solutions where necessary.” Installing a central interactive sign in a small town will be a first and will include both touch and mobile interaction. Way-finding maps, shops, organizations, events, the Arts, restaurants and lodging will be included. Bar codes, QR codes and “Groupons” discounts from our businesses can be downloaded to one’s Smart Phones.
Of course, a major component has been to establish funding for the project. The DCA is proud to announce receipt of a substantial grant. The remaining funds will be found in our business community and sponsors.
As a complement to DCA’s campaign of Think Chestertown First, a member business, Chesapeake Bank & Trust, now offers “spend local stay local” Gift Cards that are only redeemable in local businesses. For more contact information:
