The Bookplate
The Bookplate is an independent bookstore in the heart of downtown Chestertown, MD. We specialize in first editions, regional history, and fiction, but our collection has gradually expanded to include art books, field guides, essays, comics, and beyond. Plus custom, hand painted pottery imported from Portugal and Spain.

BOOKPLATE is a traditional general stock used bookstore offering a wide range of books in a broad array of categories. We emphasize the local history of the Chesapeake Bay region with a strong focus of books relating to the history and literature of Maryland's Eastern Shore as well as its colonial and revolutionary heritage.

Located in historic Chestertown and situated along the banks of the Chester River with the Chesapeake Bay a few miles away, Bookplate has an expanded section on maritime history, exploration, sailing, navigation, nautical fiction and tales of the sea. We also carry books for the maritime trade. World history, politics, and war and diplomacy are well represented with an emphasis on the Middle East, Southeast Asia and China. The fields of art, architecture, design and the decorative arts are well stocked with a large selection of books, monographs and exhibition catalogues on the textiles of Central Asia.
